WOW! I can't believe that plastic guitars with big colored buttons has lost it's charm. I thought it would last forever and save the music biz!
The Chicago Tribune reports that sales of music games dropped 46% in 2009, representing "the largest decline of any genre, indicating that the once red-hot music gaming trend is losing steam." This overall decline is reflected in the slow sales of two of the year's highest-profile titles: The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5.
Speaking of music games...do you think that any of your songs will ever get into Rock Band? Some of your brothers songs got in there awhile back, so, why not?
ReplyDeleteMy brother and I and our friends have wanted some of your songs in there since the first game came out.
What do ya' say, Spider?
Perhaps the decline isn't because the games are getting worse - maybe it's just 2008 was an exceptional year. After all, it was the year that Rock Band 2 came out and Guitar Hero finally introduced the drums and microphone into their sets. Perhaps the sales were still good in 2009, it's just that nothing revolutionary was introduced, and most people just download new songs instead of buying entire new games.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who plays video games a bit too much, a pretty decent game reviewer for someone who is barely hanging out in college, and someone who has played these games a bit too much myself, the reason these games are declining is as follows..
ReplyDeleteIt's not the genre near as much is how the companies put this crap out. For example, in a year, they released Guitar Hero 5, Van Halen, Smash Hits, World Tour, Rock Band Beatles, Rock Band 2, etc.. People are just burned out on the stuff. I know I am. Rock Band 3 (which was recently announced) is suppose to actually feature a real Fender guitar with real strings and such, allowing people to learn tabs. I didn't even care about this genre until I heard this again.
I dunno if you ever listened to my weird Caterpillar Burial "hippie band", Spider, but that's about as good as I am on the guitar. You influenced me to listen to rock in the first place (this is also why I know 99% of all of PM5K's songs and loved singing along at the Nashville concert). But since I'm mainly a gamer, this is as talented as I'm gonna get on the guitar until I take my guitar ability to the next level. Colored buttons and fake strumming is all I've got... for now.
