THE 10 RULES

After 20 years in the music biz, I have compiled the 10 rules you need to follow if you want to be in a band. ENJOY!!

1. RESPECT YOUR FANS

You might be a genius but without your fans you are alone, and make no mistake, they know better than you!

2. CONVINCE YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE AMAZING

Considering how miniscule the odds are at achieving any sort of success, you need to be convinced that you are awesome (even if you're not). If you have any doubt that you are not the next Beatles, you will quit as soon as your read a review that says you are worthless!

3. REALIZE THAT YOU SUCK

This FACT will keep you working hard.

4. PLEASE BE INTERESTING

Image is important. There is NO great artist that didn't have a strong image. Go ahead, name one. I dare you.

5. IT'S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT

If you think it happens over night, fuck off!

6. LISTEN TO OTHER PEOPLE (to a point)

Other people's opinions are important. You don't know it all. But at the end of the day it's your band and your career so you have to make the call and live with the consequences.

7. DON'T FEEL BAD ABOUT STEALING

We all do it. We steal when we write. It is an essential part of popular music and vital to it's survival. Just be creative when you do it.

8. DON'T BE A DICK

If you are fortunate enough to get some fans, make a few records and go on tour, please realize that you are still the same person that you where when you started. Treat people right (even the super fucking annoying ones!).

9. DON'T HAVE A PLAN B

If you do, you will use it.

10. HAVE FUN

Chasing a dream can be painful, try to enjoy it.

  4. Good advice for anybody. You could use this even if your dream was to be a plumber.
